Technical Theory

exposure, camera modes and settings

Do you own a professional camera and yet always find yourself shooting in automatic mode? If you rely on the camera to make the decisions for you, then you will never get the results you want. We start the week off right by getting technical and learning the theory behind it all.

You will be the master of your camera as you learn how to create your desired exposure, how to shoot in different camera modes and understand your camera settings. Afterwards, you will be able to create the photos you’ve always dreamed of.

storytelling

Intro to LIFESTYLE photography

The term lifestyle photography is thrown around a lot, but what does it really mean? Ultimately it’s about using your photos to tell stories. When we take pictures we become storytellers.

This workshop explains what lifestyle photography is and how you can make your photos natural, fun and full of emotion. It also touches on how to make your subjects feel comfortable in front of the camera. My favourite part is teaching you how to capture the in-between moments to best capture natural looking smiles. Once you master storytelling it will transform the way you take photos.

IMAGE CREATION

lighting, Composition and Art Direction

“Beauty can be seen in all things. Seeing and composing the beauty is what separates the snapshot from the photograph.” - Matt Hardy

This workshop will teach you how to use light (or create it if necessary) to make your subject stand out. You will learn about composition and how to best frame your subjects in different ways. Finally, we will talk about how art direction is an important part of creating images and how preparing ahead of time can improve your final results.

Documentation

seeing and changing the world

One translation of the word lens means “how you see the world.” When you take a photo you are telling a story from your point of view. Sometimes we find ourselves in amazing places, but can’t capture it as well as we might hope.

In this workshop, you will learn how to really see the world around you. Receive insight on how to take photos of strangers.. Find your balance between living the moment and capturing the moment. Finally, see how you can use your photography to help others and make the world a better place.

PoSt-Production

Organizing, Editing and sharing

A lot of people take photos, but don’t end up sharing them. Others are looking for a way to streamline their editing workflow and feel overwhelmed by the thought of creating a personal portfolio.

The Post-Production workshop will show you what tools professionals use to organize and edit photos. Find what workflow works best for you. See presets in action and how they transform your photos into works of art. Finally, learn how to best utilize Instagram and a personal website to display your work to the world.
